What a Husband Should Do During Pregnancy

Following their union in marriage, the two people move forward in life as a single unit. The husband and wife should equally share all marital responsibilities, including those related to raising children. In reality, supporting your wife through her pregnancy is your duty as a devoted husband and soon-to-be father.

You might be wondering as a husband how you can make your wife’s pregnancy as easy as possible. Every husband has so much to do during his wife’s pregnancy. Both parents are responsible for the child’s birth. In the same vein, both parents must assume equal responsibilities and cooperate even when a woman is pregnant. A woman assumes all the duties that come her way when she is pregnant, so during this process, you must never give her the impression that the burden is solely hers to bear.

Some husbands unreasonably encourage their wives to take on heavy domestic responsibilities even in the final trimester. From their perspective, pregnancy is not grounds for laziness. And so, while they may be nice to other people, while they get adequate rest, they totally ignore their wives’ needs for care, affection, and companionship during this time.

Husbands are expected to take care of their wives just as they do to their own bodies. Every man naturally feeds, protects, washes, cleans and cares for his body. Likewise, when your wife is in pain, you should help ease her pain. If you could care for others, Christ demanded that you care more for your wife.

Christ washed the feet of His disciples even when they all had the strength to do so. What He demonstrated was a remarkable service to one another. He demonstrated the ministry of love, which places the interest of self behind and below that of others.

“So after He had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example that ye should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him”

John 13: 12-16

Do you love your wife as Christ loves the church and gave His life for her? A husband is expected to discharge his God-given role and responsibility over his wife during the time of pregnancy. This is because women are usually weak at this period and needs more help and love.

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband”

Ephesians 5:25-33

As God showered you with His love without minding that you are not worthy, in the same way, you should love your wives without minding their failures.
