After Deliverance: What Next?

The question of “Now what?” often arises after someone experiences deliverance. What should a person anticipate after receiving their deliverance? Jesus warned that demonic spirits would try to find their way back to the exact person they were driven out of. Therefore, you must be ready for any means through which demons might attempt to reenter.

If you wish to enjoy a full and lasting deliverance, you must obey the commands and the teachings of the deliverer who never, and will never need deliverance. After deliverance, Jesus says you must sin no more, having nothing to do with sin, lest a worse thing come to you.

“Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee”

John 5:14

The human body is a fertile ground for demons since that is where they can move freely and exercise themselves. This ground can be opened up for them to enter or reenter through sin. When they are cast out of a person, they become restless and walk in dry places seeking rest, which they never find in any other place except in human bodies. They come back from time to time to check whether sin has opened the door for them in such a person’s body. As such, when you go back to sin after deliverance, you give an invitation to the problem to come back in a more wicked way than before.

“When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation”

Matthew 12: 43-45

Life after Deliverance

Life after deliverance is a real life of struggle against the wiles of the devil in a more subtle way. It is a time when the devil comes in clever ways to pull you down, so as to rob you of your deliverance. Likewise, it is also your time to put on the whole armor of God and be sober and vigilant more than ever before.

Now, you need to change; take a clear decision to start living a better and more consistent Christian life. It is a time to take a clear stand immediately in your office and make your stand known to your sinful partners and friends, and even to your boss. Stand by it without fear but respectfully.

After you have been delivered, you must double your commitment to please God at all times in any situation. You must also be prepared to face temptations that can come from your closest person, friend, husband, wife, or even a respected leader. The devil can use any and every means—people, things, and circumstances—available in an attempt to make you fall from grace, so that you will lose what you got during your deliverance. He can also use sin’s weapons, such as corrupt human hearts, evil companions, mind defilement, others’ carelessness, or through the gates of your eye.

“And it came to pass in an evening tide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house. And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child”

2 Samuel 11:2-5

A New Life

A tree is known by its fruits. Likewise, the sanctified believer has fruits by which he can be easily identified. Your vows, consecration, and repentance during deliverance must produce the fruits of righteousness, new life, and abortions of the evil old ways of life. This means that you must avoid and reject your old ways of life. You must let your friends know that you are born again and filter your conversations, outings, old business tricks, demonic dressing, and appearances that will take you back to the world. You must have a fixed purpose to be true to the Word and be obedient to God at all cost.

Granted, we are all humans and are bound to sin at one point or the other. But this is all the more reason you need to be careful. If in your careless or unchecked moments, you sin, you are supposed to repent and forsake the sin immediately. Paul once abused the high priest, but he repented immediately and never in his life repeated it again.

“And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day. And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth. Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law? And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God’s high priest? Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people”

Acts 23:1-5

God has promised to help you as you resist any temptation to go into sin after your vows, consecrations, and fire prayers during deliverance. So, if you have sinned and backslidden, return to Jesus and he will accept you. No matter your problem, Jesus Christ will deliver you and keep you delivered.

Jesus died on the cross in order to save you completely from sin. Therefore, if you fall into sin by mistake, quickly confess it, forsake it without postponement, and abhor it today.
