Happily Ever After

For most people, marriage is a once-in-a-lifetime event. It is a significant change that will have a huge impact on your life. It is a promise made by couples to stay together until the end of their lives, no matter what, and to always be there for each other in the good and bad times.

But unfortunately, for some people, maintaining that life-long commitment becomes extremely difficult overtime. Not only that, some people, despite living under the same roof, do not live inside each other’s hearts. Marriage is so much more than a ceremony; it is a vow or covenant binding you to your partner for the rest of your lives. Most people do not know that a vow or covenant is a very serious thing. It is even more serious when it is a marriage vow. If it were good to be alone, God would have allowed man to be without a wife from the beginning but He designed marriage and made it fitting for a man and woman to enjoy so many things. It was also designed for preservation of purity and holiness in the church and community.

2Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. 9But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn. 10And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:  11But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife”

1 Corinthians 7:2, 9-11

Marriage provides true fellowship, comfort, companionship and fellowship. Our likenesses and differences complement one another in a marriage relationship. This is why a marriage devoid of true friendship and God’s love suffers deadly blows and can only survive for so long. Nowadays, people go into marriage with an open mind; ready to leave at the slightest provocation. They fail to acknowledge the truth that marriage is an irrevocable commitment.

Troubled waters

Devil has deployed abundant marital challenges to shake families of the earth. At times, problems emerge as soon as a couple gets married. Other times, it comes at the middle of the marriage or at the tail end of the marriage. Whichever time, you are encouraged to wrestle and fight war against the devil and not to surrender to him.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places”

Ephesians 6:12

The scripture revealed that troubles must come, and the only way out is through Lord Jesus, who has provided the right way. Any other way leads to greater bondage and damnation. Great struggle awaits all married couples. Good things are equally devil’s targets.

Destroying the Enemy

Whoever or whatever that comes between you and your legally married partner is an enemy. The problem is that most Christians give the devil a place in their marriages when God commanded us not to do so,

“Neither give place to the devil”

Ephesians 4:27

You should know that no matter the gravity of problem, conflict or hostility in your marriage, divorce and separation is not God’s perfect will for you. As Christian families, we must depend on God and use right weapons to fight the devil. Christians who do not expect or realize how strong the enemy is would likely fall on the day of battle. When you know God’s plan, purpose and provision for your marriage, you would be able to discern when the devil is establishing his own plan.

Finally…

Obey the Word of God first. Failure to leave and cleave has caused so many problems in families. Problems and temptations in marriage should bring you and your wife together in order to help you to know God and prove Him the more. Bearing fruits of the spirit, which is God’s nature, makes you more fruitful than barren. Lack of it brings blindness and leads people astray. You must resist the devil and chase him out of your marriage.

Perhaps, your marriage is messed up already. You can still make amends. Jesus is never too late or too early. Delay is not denial.
