How You Can Be Successful in Your Career

To work and to be faithful are two different things. Not all workers are faithful. However, to be faithful at work brings progress and this is important. Let’s see the life of Joseph and how he did not compromise his faith in God. He did not walk by sight or changed his character or religion. For so many people, relocation to a new place would result to a change of character but not so with Joseph. The devil used every available means to tempt Joseph, including people, things, and circumstances, but by the grace of God, he triumphed. Likewise, the devil may tempt you in the office through corruption but you can overcome him by the grace of God.

Why Believers Fall

In as much as temptations may come, it is rather expedient that we resist the devil and he will flee. You cannot overcome the devil when you get involved in the affairs of this world. You have to watch, pray and distance yourself from anything that represents corruption. No matter your spiritual experience and ability in the past, do not be lazy or take things for granted because this has destroyed many people.

Appearances of Evil

The devil may come in all forms and through different means to entice you. He may entice you through the eyes of the mind as he did to Eve. At other times, he would try to overcome you and influence you through the behavior of evil companions or lead you into temptation and sin through the carelessness of others as he did to David using Bathsheba.

Obedience

While the devil may be the villain in all of this, sometimes believers are just as guilty. Paul in his letter to the Colossians addressed the issue of relationship with God and our relationship with one another. Employees are to obey their employers, just as servants obey their masters. Obedience must come from the heart as unto the Lord who rewards every good service. Obedience to the masters from the servants should not be with eye service, as men pleasers do but with singleness of heart, fearing God.

God searches the heart and He knows when you are working and when you are not. God will judge all our works.

“Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eye service, as men pleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God: And what soever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men”

Colossian 3:22-23

For you to get your rights, benefits and entitlements, you must obey stipulated rules and regulations at the place of work. You must do this whether your servant or master fulfilled his or not. Many people quote the Word of God and claim His promises in vain without observing simple rules in their offices or organization.

When you carry out your responsibilities in the office as instructed, God will answer your prayers for progress, blessing and promotion. The only time you are allowed to take a stand against any rule is when it contradicts God’s Word.

“But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye”

Acts 4:19

Diligence

A diligent man receives his reward whether the devil likes it or not. A good number of people hated Joseph to the point where he was imprisoned. Yet he worked hard wherever he found himself seeking nothing but the glory of God.

“Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all”

Psalms 34:19

Joseph did not waste any time in his life. He served God and humanity. He did spend time in nightclubs, cinemas, football fields, and card rooms, but he preferred to spend his entire life, money, and energy on serving God and his generation.

Lastly…

Whenever you get into any office, prepare your mind to serve others and do not expect anyone to serve you in return. Be humble and willing to serve in your place of work. Offer your services to God and humanity. Just as Jesus served with love and compassion, you too can do the same.
