Putting on the Armor of God

Wearing all of God’s armor has nothing to do primarily with technique. The Bible uses the image of the armor of God to remind Christians of the realities of spiritual conflict and to highlight the protection at their disposal.

God, the Father of all blessings, made His power to get victory over Satan and the world available to all His children. He knew a spiritual battle was imminent, and he had no intention of allowing us to be vulnerable to the attacks of the devil. As a result, he provided us with his armor of war and protection. Wise and victorious Christians put on the whole armor of God. If you want to stand out as one of the victors in this generation, you will have to wrestle against principalities and powers, rulers of darkness in this world and against spiritual wickedness in high places. To do this, you need God’s amour in these evil days.

The whole armor of God is expressed in your total trust in God and all he has accomplished for you through Jesus Christ. Confusion regarding what the Christian life entails can result from a flawed understanding of God’s armor. Christians are commanded to put on the whole armor of God, which consists of the Belt of Truth, the Breastplate of Righteousness, the Shoes of the Gospel of Peace, the Shield of Faith, the Helmet of Salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit.

The Belt of Truth

Having the belt of truth means standing on what you know is right and insisting on doing things the right way. You must pattern your life according to all truth as revealed in the written Word of God.

The Lord saw that truth had to be woven around our loins. He has seen every path we’ve traveled and how they have wounded and derailed us, regardless of the culture or time we live in. He is aware that we require the truth. Hold on to the truth with hope, especially when the problems of life will seek to sway your mind. Always remember the truth of God’s word and what He says. Will you believe what God says about you or what the Devil, the accuser, says when life’s challenges hit you hard?

The Breastplate of Righteousness

Since you can never acquire righteousness on your own, the knowledge that you are deserving of God’s favor is a gift that is given to you. At the slightest hint of unrighteousness, the forces of darkness are poised to attack. Usually, during difficult experiences, satan knows how to open many doors of escape. Although the enemy tempts you with a variety of evil entanglements, righteousness guards your heart.

However, even when such doors appear certain to offer solace, shun those doors and keep in the way of righteousness. Maintain your relationship with Christ and he will not abandon you. Refuse to look back or compromise your faith in Christ. Instead, remain steadfast in your obedience to the Word of God. Insist that holiness must be your goal strictly in order to win the enemy in the end.

“As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy”

1 Peter 1:14-16

The shoes of the Gospel of Peace

The very nature and character of the Lord are characterized by peace. The gospel is the forgiveness of sins and access to and union with God through faith in Christ. Peace results from this unity with the Lord. Worry is one of the easiest ways the enemy can succeed in luring us away from maintaining our resolve. When you carry this anxiety and worry with you, you are deprived of your peace.

Establish your feet on the Word of God. Do not accept anything that contradicts the gospel of peace. Barrenness, miscarriage, and reproach may irritate you, but do not let them shake your faith and trust in Jesus’ gospel. Clothe yourself with the gospel of peace. A lot of times, the devil has deceived many people with fake blessings that brought them sorrow, pain, and eternal damnation. But do not allow temporary shame, reproach, or disgrace to force you into accepting the devil’s solution. Trust in the power of God that can bring true blessings without sorrow. That is why the gospel of Christ says that the just shall live by faith.

The Shield of Faith

Faith is the key that unlocks the doors of heavenly resources, and prayer without faith is useless. Through faith, which is an essential ingredient in your prayers, you can subdue kingdoms through faith. The scriptures record great men who subdued kingdoms through faith, and if they could do this, you too can subdue kingdoms through faith. Because God is not partial, all you have to do is believe Him and watch your own kingdom fall. The powers that resist your prayers now have done the same to others in the past. So, do not allow any particular problem to shift your faith from Christ.

“For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith”

1 John 5:4

The shield of faith quenches or extinguishes the fiercest arrows of the enemy. The devil fires arrows of impurity, selfishness, doubt, fear, discouragement, unbelief, and many evil thoughts to dislodge your faith and focus on Christ. Use the shield of faith to defend yourself today.

The Helmet of Salvation

Salvation is deliverance and preservation from evil, sin, and the consequences of the fall of man. It is the foundational pillar of the gospel. Without salvation, everything else is useless and worth nothing. It is a priceless treasure, and the devil knows this. This is why he is willing to offer anything on earth in exchange for it. He can promise you children, prosperity, anything your heart desires. However, you have to remember that nothing on earth is worth the price of your salvation.

A Roman soldier never goes into battle without putting his helmet on. The helmet protects the head from arrows and broadswords. Your salvation is your protection, and as such, you must resist everything and anything that seeks to take it away from you or draws you back to sin in an attempt to strip you of your salvation.

“But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation”

1 Thessalonians 5:8

The Sword of the Spirit

“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”

Ephesians 6:17

The Word of God makes us wiser than the cleverest tempter, the devil. If the devil could surrender when Jesus quoted God’s Word, then he would also surrender as you keep quoting the Word of God. The devil may tempt you through the corruption of your heart, or entice you through your eyes, or through your carelessness. It could be through an idol in your mind or even what you love the most.

Nevertheless, you must fight your battle with the sword of the spirit (Rhema), which is a specific utterance of God. There is always a specific word of God for every temptation. God’s armor is powerful enough to help you overcome every problem. Trust in his word.

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”

Hebrews 4:12
