The Distinctive Fruits of Excellence

There are distinctive fruits of excellence that distinguish people with excellent spirits. When things are going well, it is hard to spot people of excellence. Nevertheless, when things become difficult, their excellent spirit radiates like light.

Daniel knew that his colleagues were planning against him. Even after the decree was signed, he did not complain; rather, he went to God in prayer. He knew how to handle difficult situations. Calmness and composure in times of chaos are one of the evidences of the spirit of excellence in a person’s life. When Joseph’s brothers finally faced him, his first reaction was calmness. He found himself under stress and high emotional strain, yet he was calm and composed.

With calmness and remarkable moral power, he refused to give way to bitterness, self-pity, and despair. He overcame his difficulties with a courageous sense of responsibility and high moral values. Earlier, he had rejected, with respect and a high level of boldness and calmness, an immoral invitation from a strange woman. He was falsely accused, but he was never bitter or vengeful.

He calmly waited for God to vindicate him, not complaining, murmuring, regretting, or exhibiting vengeance and God did not disappoint him. Likewise, Daniel did not run away or complain, but he calmly requested why the decree was made in haste.

“Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king’s guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon: He answered and said to Arioch the king’s captain, why is the decree so hasty from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel”

Daniel understood that God knows every secret on the planet. His only concern was that he needed time to commune with God. He believed there was an answer even before he started praying, and that the wise thing for him to do was to pray. There was no place for fear, doubt, or discouragement.

In times of crisis, people with excellent spirits are always courageous. A person with an excellent spirit has faith in God. They are always confident and committed to God. They believe that God hears their prayers, even at the very last minute. In times of trouble, fear, doubt, unbelief, and discouragement have no place in them.

They do not allow current circumstances to fill them with doubts, fear, or discouragement. In Daniel’s case, he simply asked for more time to consult his God. This is a good model to copy. Always ask for more time to consult God.
