The Right Approach to Prayer

As they say, knowledge is power. And this is why, when you do not have the knowledge of God’s love, care, and ability to do all things, faith will be lacking before you even start praying. You will continuously be terrified by life’s troubles. You only doubt God when you do not know who he is.

Just like most things, there are ways in which you have to come to God during prayers. You might want to ask, “How should you approach God in prayer?”

The name of Jesus

One critical point to emphasize in your prayers is that you are supposed to pray to the Father through Jesus Christ. It is God’s will that every believer should go to God through Jesus Christ. He is the mediator between us and God. He came to the world because of you and lived his life to bring man back to God’s presence. Therefore, you have the right, authority, and equal opportunity to pray to his father in his name. His name is an open cheque to receive whatsoever you need from the father. The name of Christ is a very powerful weapon in the hands of believers who want to get answers to their prayers.

“And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it”

John 14:13-14

Patience

You may be oblivious to what God is doing behind the scenes, and this often leads to complaints. Because there may be no visible progress, it does not mean that God is not working or that he won’t answer your prayers. If you must receive answers, you must learn to patiently wait on God in prayer, especially when it seems the answers are delayed. Once you pray, you must believe that God has heard you. Knowing this will usher you into a state of joy and peace instead.

Forgiveness

Another important aspect is that you must pray with a forgiving spirit. Before you start praying at all, you must make sure that you forgive anyone who has offended you. Forgiveness appears simpler on paper and as such, it may sometimes be difficult to let go of the wrongs done to you. However, God can also help you get past this in order to prepare you for prayers.

“And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses”

Mark 11:25-26

Sometimes, all you need is a desire to seek God’s face. At any time, you can pour out your heart to him in prayer. In your prayers, you must understand and master the right approach to God.
