Mercy is an extension or an expression of love; “an act of kindness, compassion, or favour.” God is known to be a God of mercy and grace. Understanding what mercy is often difficult for people, as everyone wants to get back at the next person once they offend them. Many people have a habit of harshly criticizing others and wishing others to get what they have coming to them and then some.
The truth is, if God were to direct such harsh criticism towards us as well, we wouldn’t be standing. Mercy can be interpreted as goodness, pity, compassion, love, and kindness. It is a strong and delicate sense of compassion. God’s mercy is characterized by his intense and deep compassion for us.
It is actually being compassionate and aroused by the sight of weakness or suffering. It means to bend or stoop in kindness or loyalty to a lower-ranking person, to favor or bestow something on him, and to be considerate frequently when it is not expected or deserved.

Every day of your life, you experience God’s mercy. Sometimes, you don’t even see it! In the Bible, Jesus entered the city of Nain as an example. He met the youths near the city gate, on his way to bury a young boy, the mother’s only son. He was about to be killed in a wicked way, and the widow was likely not going to have any other child.
“Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.”Luke 7:12-15
When Jesus saw how wickedly the devil and his agents had dealt with this woman, he had compassion on her. This did not happen because the widow merited it, but out of a deep, tender feeling of compassion. The mercy of God is more powerful than death. It can stop the power of death at the gate, restore life to the weak, and deliver the weak from the powers that are stronger than they are.
