Finding Purpose in the Job Search

Millions of people all over the world today are looking for jobs. Most of them are youths who are sick, tired, and almost confused because of their idleness. Christians among them are crying, praying, and almost blaming God and other people for their predicaments. However, the truth is that God did not create anyone on earth without making provisions for what to do. God demonstrated this when He gave Adam work to do.

“And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shall not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shall surely die”

Genesis 2:15-17

God has provided men with work since the beginning of time. The vast fields of the earth are enough for all men to work. There is always a garden to tend to and a job to do. However, God wants every man to accomplish a particular purpose on earth. When Jesus came to earth, he did not waste time looking for jobs or doing every other job that was advertised. Jesus discovered his job on time. He was in the midst of the doctors, hearing them and asking them questions. He went about doing what God had called him to do. The question now is, “What has God called you to do on earth?”

While you may know your calling like Jesus did, notice that He submitted to His parent’s care until he was old enough to start His work fully. His parents took care of him and taught him how to work and live. Jesus submitted to His parents until it was the right time for Him to start His ministry. He was obedient to his parents and elders. He increased in wisdom, stature, and favor with God and man.

Even after that, when it came time for Him to begin His ministry, he allowed the Holy Spirit to lead him into times of prayer for an open heaven. Unfortunately, the reverse is the case for many young ministers today. Most of them have abandoned school without acquiring enough training because they discovered their calling early.

Jesus did not launch into ministry directly from His parents’ care and training, even though He had all the qualifications, wisdom, and training to do so. He surrendered to the Holy Spirit first, who led him to pray. He submitted to John the Baptist to be baptized in water. His heaven opened and God spoke; the Holy Spirit descended upon him as a dove before he was ready for his ministry, and then he was tempted by the devil.

And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, commands this stone that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God”

Luke 4:3-4

“Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shall worship the Lord thy God, and him only shall thou serve. Then the devil leave him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him”

Matthew 4:10-11

Nonetheless, notice that Jesus was ready when the devil came to tempt him. He had been prepared by the various trainings he had undergone. Before you start acting on your calling, allow the Holy Spirit to direct you. Submit yourself to God.
