Living in Sin or Obedience to God

The Scriptures have such beautiful descriptions of Saul. He was the first King of Israel from the tribe of Benjamin, a charming choice young man who was better than the rest of Israel’s young men. He was taller than others, with shoulders that pointed upward.

“And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people”

1 Samuel 9:2

Saul started out as a humble and God-fearing man who respected God’s servants, and because of such qualities, God commanded Samuel to anoint Saul as King over Israel. He was loyal to his father, Kish, and when he went seeking his father’s lost asses, he encountered the greatest servant of God of his time. Saul was permitted to sit with the prophet in the chief’s place among thirty people, where he dined with him and was anointed as king and commissioned to lead God’s children.

God knew him by his name, his family’s name, and his tribe. That was why God gave specific details concerning his assignment as a king. Saul was separated for a divine assignment and was specially called out and anointed for that purpose. Filled with the Spirit of God, he received a new heart, prophesied among other prophets, and was commissioned to reign over Israel. He defended the children of Israel, fought and defeated the Ammonites, and was confirmed and generally accepted as king by the whole nation.

Sadly, at some point in his life, Saul initiated his family into occultism and witchcraft through his impatience and disobedience to God’s specific commandment. Instead of repenting and asking God’s forgiveness, as David would demonstrate later, Saul failed to take responsibility for his faults. He argued with God and instead, shifted blame. He feared the unknown and engaged in foolish actions instead of repenting, confessing, and forsaking his wrongdoing. This is a very important thing that ministers of the gospel must take note of if they desire to live to fulfill their ministries and destinies.

Saul was unmoved by the consequences of his disobedience. He allowed Samuel to leave without settling issues with him and God. Instead, Saul numbered the people with him and went to war with the Philistines, ignoring Samuel’s decree and never returning to ask for his help. Yet even without his repentance, God, by His mercies and grace, gave him victory over his enemies.

A lot of times, we think that achieving victory after gross disobedience, doing exploits by praying and receiving answers to your prayers, and increasing material prosperity in sin and disobedience to God’s Word equates to God’s approval for you to continue in sin. However, it is just a matter of time before you discover it was God’s grace all along. Many family, community, and church leaders have conscientiously broken God’s commandments and laws, committed immorality, and are guilty of all kinds of sin, yet they are prospering materially in whatever they are doing. That was the case with King Saul.

Do you realize that, despite Saul’s atrocities, God, in His grace and mercy, still assigned Samuel to him for other tasks? What does that tell you? Occupying or retaining a divine position after committing sin without genuine repentance does not suggest that you are right with God. Likewise, receiving prophecies or hearing God’s Word while living in sin is not evidence that you are a child of God. Prosperity in sin is a massive deception and witchcraft manipulation that leads to occultism. Therefore, when you see someone prospering and enjoying life while living in sin, do not admire such a person in any way because that person could be headed for witchcraft bondage.

When you sin and refuse to repent, you discredit your calling and anointing, if you have them. You also allow the devil to plant in you a seed of witchcraft, a seed of desires for temporary blessings above your relationship with God, and a seed of prosperity and victory without holiness. He will turn your heart to live unrighteous until you are taken away from the presence of God.

It is not enough to go to church, pray, answer the call of God, preach, or carry out divine assignments partially. God demands absolute obedience and commitment to His Word, His call, and His assignment to you. God’s assignment to King Saul was to destroy all that the Amalekites have and to spare them, but he disobeyed a direct instruction. God cannot call you for any assignment without equipping you with His power and grace to fulfill his assignment, and that is what He did for Saul.

That is why it remains your choice whether to live in sin or in complete or partial obedience. It is not God’s will that we wallow in sin, but the individual choices of all people. You and I have the grace to resist the devil, deny ungodliness, worldliness, and lusts, and live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world. When you commit sin or make mistakes and refuse to acknowledge the truth and repent, you could have accepted occultism without consent. Obedience to God’s word and commandments is better than any sacrifice you could ever think of.

Prayers against Occultism Involvement

  4. By the power in the blood of Jesus, I withdraw from evil groups, known and unknown, forever and ever, in the name of Jesus.
