Seeking the Lord While He May Be Found

As Christians, we are aware that prayer is important. We get the impression that we should be making time to talk to God through listening to sermons and reading the Bible. A few people can be seen praying as we look around us. Pastors pray often, but that is part of their work, right? Other spirited people are also going deep into prayer. Should you pray too? Is it something you are expected to do? Is prayer something you are commanded to do?

Well, as it turns out, prayer is a command from God to his children. The Bible tells us as much. We are to seek the Lord and His strength on a continuous basis.

Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.

1 Chronicles 16:11

What time should you pray?

There is no time a true believer is commanded not to pray. You have been given unlimited access to God through prayer, and this means that you can pray anytime, every time, every day as much as you can (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Nobody can ever pray too much. Instead, sometimes we may even need to pray all night and all day.

Jesus gave us a perfect example of what it means to pray without ceasing. He saw the need to pray all night. This should spur you on to pray even more in these times.

And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

Luke 6:12

And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

Luke 2:37

Another great privilege in prayer is that it can be done everywhere. So, you do not have to worry about finding a suitable place to pray or wait until you get to a church. On top of mountains or in special programs are not the only places you can pray. Because God is omnipresent and omnipotent, you can have access to God wherever you find yourself.

Prayers can be done anywhere, but be careful not to pray publicly in order to impress people.

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

Mathew 6:5-6, 8

Some people go out to pray to paint an impressive picture for the public, but all that does not matter. Your prayers must be done with respect to God, not for a show. When you pray very well, the Lord is moved to bless you abundantly.
