A gate is usually the first thing you see and have to pass through when you get to a place. Whatever or whoever goes in or out depends on access given. In the same way, you have the ability to decide who goes in and comes out of your life. Satan would love nothing more than to enter and establish a stronghold in certain areas of your life. He will do everything it takes to throw you off balance, divert your attention, and make you ineffective for the Kingdom of God.
In the scriptures, in the days of old, gates were made at the entrances of cities. It could be a gate by the beach, to palaces (Esther 5), rivers, temples (Acts 3), people, etc. It could also be a house. Very important discussions were also held at the city gates in the Bible days.

The easiest way to open doors to Satan is through sin. Adam and Eve made the decision that opened their gates to satan by the time they had discussed, disobeyed, and ate the forbidden fruit (Genesis 3:6). They gave satan access into their lives.
The gates of your life can be open to evil through sin, worldliness and worldly amusements or pleasures (John 2:15-17). As a believer, you need to separate yourself from those whose affections and desires are of the world. You need to be dead to sin, to the things of this world. Your affections should be set on heaven and on Christ, as the Apostle Paul enjoins us in Hebrews 12:1-2. Do you know that you can also open the gates of your life to the devil by your conversations, dressing, pleasures, and worldly enjoyment (1 Timothy 6:6-10)?
Similarly, pride is of the world and can invite evil into your life. Carnal festivals, lust of the eyes, and so much more are abominations to God and can open the gate of your life to every mantle of unholy desire (Song of Solomon chapter 2:15). It is true that there are certain desires you may nurse in your heart, but if you must succeed as a Christian, you must get rid of inordinate affection for places, things, or people. Travelling to some places or getting some things must not be a do-or-die affair for you. Insisting on enjoying certain pleasures may force you into engaging in certain desires that will give the devil an open invitation into your life.

Shechem opened an evil gate when he defiled Dina, the daughter of Jacob, which brought about his death and the death of all the males in the household, and the destruction of all their property.
“And Dinah the daughter of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land. And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he took her, and lay with her, and defiled her. And his soul clave unto Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the damsel, and spake kindly unto the damsel. And Shechem spake unto his father Hamor, saying, Get me this damsel to wife. And Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter: now his sons were with his cattle in the field: and Jacob held his peace until they were come… And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city boldly, and slew all the males. And they slew Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem’s house, and went out. The sons of Jacob came upon the slain, and spoiled the city, because they had defiled their sister. They took their sheep, and their oxen, and their asses, and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field, And all their wealth, and all their little ones, and their wives took they captive, and spoiled even all that was in the house”
Genesis 34:1-5, 25-29
Giving the devil access to your life not only ends in your destruction, it can also destroy your family members and, by extension, even your generation. Instead, your ambitions should be offered to the Lord as an offering and sacrifice, a sweet-smelling savor that should not contradict God’s will for your life.
