Honeymoon: A Time for What?

After the stress of a wedding, a honeymoon is undoubtedly something that every couple anticipates. The period following a wedding is always an interesting one. It is believed that the first month of marriage is the sweetest. Most couples view their honeymoon as a period of harmony immediately after marriage. It is a period of unusual harmony following the establishment of a new relationship. Newly married couples often take a trip or vacation to enjoy their honeymoon.

“When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he hath taken”

Deuteronomy 24:5

Honeymoons are mentioned in the Bible. As a result, newly married men were allowed to spend time with their wives in the Bible. For a period, Moses exempted them from going to war. In the Law of Moses, they are to be freed from every work. They are expected to be at home for one year in order to cheer up their wives. They are to stay back and rejoice with their wives.

The honeymoon should be a time of commitment to God, His Word, and each other, in addition to spending time with each other. It’s time to reexamine yourselves to see if you’re still in faith.

“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”

2 Corinthians 13:5

A time for what?

The honeymoon can be a time to review your past lives and tell yourselves the truth. You can also revisit all your activities from the beginning of the relationship until the wedding. It is also a time to reconcile how much money was spent and how much is available. This is the only way to know if you have incurred debts during your wedding. Honeymoon is the best time to discuss the future of your new family.

As a couple, you can now study the bible together and evaluate each other’s convictions about God’s Word and your commitment to the Word of God. As Christians, you should treat the bible as an authentic written Word of God. You must reject things that contradict God’s Word.

“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God”

Matthew 4:4

The Word of God is able to guide a husband and his wife to live in peace and harmony. It is rich in wisdom, and good for teaching or admonishing members of the family.

One of the most beautiful things a newly wedded couple could do during their honeymoon is to pray, study God’s Word and seek His blueprint for their marriage. It is only God’s counsel that would stand. Therefore, you need His counsel. His Word reveals His counsel.

Your honeymoon should be between your partner and you. Therefore, pray that no strange woman, man or any creature interferes. Pray that you would remain one flesh. This is God’s plan, purpose and provision from the beginning.

“For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body” (Ephesians 5:23).

God’s Will

If you do not know God’s will for your marriage, how would you know what His thoughts towards your marriage are? It is not the will of God that sickness attacks you during your honeymoon. It is not God’s will that you start your married life with disease. If you do not ask, you may not receive.

God’s written will for you is to be blessed and for your marriage to prosper. His will for you is true prosperity, a sound body, soul, and spirit. It is God’s will for you to bring God’s kingdom into your home. You can live in peace, prosperity, and abundance just as long as it is in your spirit. These should form the basis of your prayer requests during your honeymoon.

When you do not know God’s will for your marriage, you may think that the honeymoon is the best time to enjoy sex. Of course, sex is an important part of it, but more than 21% of the time should be devoted to learning what God wants you to know about each other; it is His will for both of you to end your honeymoon with no traces of problems or iniquity.

Your new marriage is an eternal journey you are embarking on with your partner and spending time with each other as well as discovering God’s will for you both. You will grow together in purpose, unity, and God’s love.
