What Happens When You Pray?

Do you ever wonder why prayer is so important? Or why do the scriptures command us to always pray? For some, prayer has been relegated to a Sunday morning ritual or when they are in desperate need of help. Nevertheless, prayer has been in existence from the beginning. It took so many forms even before Jesus came into the picture. Prayer is how you communicate with God and talk to him. It is how God speaks to us.

Prayer can take many forms; it could take the form of asking, seeking, or knocking at God’s door of mercy and power. It can take the garment of offering to the Lord in consecration and total submission. It is surrendering your will to God in prayer.

Sometimes it is so easy to get discouraged and give up on prayer. You may not get your answer the way you want it, but prayer also means telling God what you want but being ready to let go of your want for God’s will to prevail. Having prayed many prayers, I have learned that no matter the answer, I still win one way or the other because God always exceeds my expectations.

No true believer has ever prayed and failed to have results. The role of prayer in a believer’s life can be as protective as it is comforting. Prayer has so much more to offer than just help in times of desperate need or the need to feel spiritual. So then, what happens when you pray?

Prayer gives you strength

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint”

Isaiah 40:31

When you pray and wait on God, he will renew your strength. Prayer mounts you up with wings like an eagle. It makes you run faster in life progressively and keeps you from being weary in life.

Prayer gives you answers

A lot of the times, finding one’s path in life can be quite challenging, and you may not even know where to start. As a result, you can end up confused and unfulfilled. You can gain a deeper understanding of your life’s purpose by praying and paying attention to the responses God offers you. God will make it clear to you why you are here and how you can make it back to him after this life. If you do not pray and ask God for help, how do you expect to receive answers?

A relationship with God

Prayer also takes the form of fellowship with God. God wants to be in your life all day, every day, not just on Sunday mornings or family devotions.

“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed”

Mark 1:35

Many people desire a close relationship with God but do not understand just how much prayer can accomplish. Just like what happens when you are constantly in communication with someone, you become close to that person. The same thing happens when God constantly hears from you and you in turn listen to Him. It creates a deeper desire in you as you communicate with Him daily.

Miracles

We find several instances of the Lord doing miracles in response to prayer throughout the Bible. In the old testament times, Daniel was thrown into a lion’s den because he would not stop praying. He prayed to God in the lion’s den, and the angels came and shut the mouth of the lions. Through prayers, you too can receive personal miracles such as healing, peace, and forgiveness for sins.

There are truly no limits to the possibilities that prayer brings. It has stood the test of time, and only if you begin to pray today and listen to God, will all your desire be yours.
