God’s true love in the family does not come through prayers alone. There are other things that your family requires in order to thrive. It also comes from comforting each other with words of prayer and faith, and this is very important. A lot of Christian homes lack comfort. Some husbands and wives find it very difficult to comfort themselves. Many have separated or divorced as a result.
Comfort is like a pillar that holds a building. It is like a foundation. Once it fails, the building collapses. It is very difficult to succeed in life without support or comfort. Thus, failure to provide comfort is capable of causing a family or nation to collapse. Even a soldier in the army cannot win a battle where there is no form of support or comfort. Likewise, a football team that lacks tactical support and comfort from the coaching crew cannot win any match, no matter how good and talented the team is. When you comfort your partner and your children, it tends to bring out the best in them.

The best comfort one can give is comfort through the Word of God. The truth is that no one desires to live with someone who does not give him or her comfort through the Word. Would you rather be with someone who is unable to comfort you?
Let’s look at the life of Gideon. He was born just like every other Jewish boy. He dreaded the strength of the Midianites and never imagined that he would ever be instrumental in the deliverance of his people. His tribe, Manasseh, was the poorest in Israel.
People around him, including circumstances that prevailed in his time, convinced him that he was an ordinary slave who could not be useful. He resigned to his fate and continued to live averagely until God sent an angel to reveal his real identity to him. After his encounter with the angel, Gideon became encouraged. Though he was from the poorest family in Manasseh, he eventually became a mighty man of valor.
“And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valor. And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? And where be all his miracles, which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? But now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites. And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee? And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? Behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house. And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man”

Comforting someone rebirths hope and strength. It also cheers the person that is being comforted and eases grief and troubles. It consoles the heart in times of worry or trouble. Your husband or your wife will need comforting now and then. Give it to them. Even God commanded it!
