What does it mean to lack God’s mercy?
When we say that someone, a family, or a people lack God’s mercy, it doesn’t mean that the mercy of God is not present. Understand that God’s mercy can be available but will not manifest into action. Brimstones of fire attacked the people of Sodom and Gomorrah because they lacked God’s mercy. Some tried to escape, but it prevailed over them until they were all overthrown.
“Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace”. Genesis 19:24, 28
You may be going through an evil rain of afflictions and hardship now. Your city, business, marriage, health, or finances may be under threats of evil rain, but when God’s mercy appears, you will receive total deliverance.
You Should Not Lack Or Despise God’s Mercy.
The mercy of God that delivered the children of Israel from their enemies still turned around and moved them to waste themselves with their weapons. God’s mercy can redeem you from your enemies and can equally hand you over to your enemies when you despise them. The same flood that lifted the ark of Noah and redeemed him from destruction carried the unrepentant sinners to their doom.
“And hath redeemed us from our enemies: for his mercy endureth for ever“. Psalms 136:24
“For the Lord will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land: and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob. And the people shall take them, and bring them to their place: and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of the Lord for servants and handmaids: and they shall take them captives, whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors“. Isaiah 14:1, 2
Power to Restore
Divine mercy can restore your lost inheritance to you, but the absence of it can take you away from your inheritance. Divine mercy can promote you, establish you, and cause your enemies to serve you or demote you to serve your enemies. Oppression, suffering, and the reign of the wicked will cease at the appearance of God’s mercy.
Men that went against divine mercy
- When Adam and Eve despised divine mercy, they were chased out of the Garden of Eden.
- When Cain killed his brother, Abel, he lost divine mercy and was reduced to a fugitive and a vagabond.
- When the sons of Noah ignored God and started building the tower of Babel without divine permission, they lost the mercy of God; their language was altered, their project was terminated, and they were scattered abroad.
- When King Abimelech took over Abraham’s wife, the mercy of God attacked him on behalf of Abraham. His whole house was plagued, and everything in his life died spiritually, awaiting physical death.
- When Lot took sides with his herders against Abraham, he made a wrong choice that later destroyed his investments, his sons in-law, his wife, and his fame in the city. God’s mercy in a man’s life can destroy his oppressors and unrepentant enemies.
- When Onan spilled his seed on the ground, despising divine mercy, God slew him by Himself. When Pharaoh placed taskmasters over the children of Israel to oppress them and arrogantly questioned why he should obey God when he did not know Him, he faced death.
The list continues, may you not be found at any moment going against the mercy which the Lord has provided for you in His Son Jesus Christ. Embrace it and embrace divine life to His own glory.
