When you search through the bible, it is easy to identify many icons of excellence who should be your role models. To excel is to rise and be distinguished among others. It also means to outshine and be the best among equals.
Excellence is defined as being outstanding, first-rate, exceptional, superior, or the best of the best. It is a state of perfection. To have an excellent spirit is to have the most valuable quality that cannot be surpassed easily. Daniel was one such man.
In the days of King Darius, who ruled about one hundred and twenty-seven provinces, he set one hundred and twenty wise princes over the provinces he ruled. He set up three presidents over the princes. Daniel became the chief president, who ruled over the other two. The other presidents accounted for Daniel. Why? Daniel had an excellent spirit in him, and as a result, he was greatly preferred above the other presidents.

Everyone, including you, desires excellence, to have an excellent spirit. However, looking at excellence from a scriptural dimension, it is a process. It is a commitment to the highest values that God has given to you. It involves developing and implementing your God-given potential to the highest capacity for the glory of God and the goodness of man. God desires for you to grow in the skills and abilities he has given you so that you can better serve him and others.
Unfortunately, things like indifference, carelessness, and laziness are only a few of the many factors that hinder excellence. Our sinful nature is the aspect of ourselves that is unlike God and, in fact, opposes God and His excellence. As a result, your desire for excellence cannot be made manifest without salvation from sin, curse, and death. Jesus is our only Savior who saves us and intercedes for us before His Father in heaven in order to help us fulfill our destinies on earth.
