The Importance of Victory Over Sin
Victory over sin brings believers nearer to reaping the benefits of salvation; without this, you may profess salvation but will not reap its rewards. Without victory over sin, you may learn how to pray, how to prosper, sow seed, and follow every other Christian doctrine without enjoying the benefits of your salvation. It is good to repent and forsake your sins, but if you fail to maintain your salvation, you will not harvest its benefits. Just as planting seeds is important in farming, harvesting what you planted is equally important (Romans 13:11-14).
Awake and Cast Off the Works of Darkness
Believers who sin after salvation are called to awake from sleep and cast off the works of darkness. Believers who walk in dishonesty are called to amend their ways. Those who now engage in rioting, drunkenness, debauchery, wantonness, strife, and envy must stop if they wish to reap the benefits of the salvation they have planted. They are called to put on Christ and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.
Winning Spiritual Warfare Through God’s Armor
Spiritual warfare cannot be fought and won by human techniques; you can only win the war by fighting with the full armor of God. With the fruits of the Holy Spirit and submission to God, if you resist the devil, he must flee. Without putting on the full armor in obedience, even those who seemed strong and courageous in the past have fallen victim on the day of spiritual warfare. No matter how strong, intelligent, and powerful you appear, if you fail to put on the armor in obedience, you will fail miserably on the day of battle.
Our only hope of victory is to put on the full armor because self-confidence will disappoint you. Sin is a dominating tyrant, a hereditary evil, a downward drag, an inward enemy, and a corruption of the moral nature (Romans 6:14-20; Ephesians 4:22; Colossians 3:9; Romans 8:5-8; Galatians 5:16-21). The greatest problem of mankind is that sin is first inherited before it is committed.
The Saving Power of Christ
But thanks be to God, who sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to save all who will come to Him (Luke 19:10; Mark 1:15; Ephesians 2:8-9).
“He is able to save to the uttermost, those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” Hebrews 7:25
Apostle Paul made the above statement(The first bible reference) when he realized that his strength is insufficient to deliver him from struggles of the world. Beloved, in obtaining our victory over sin we must realize that if Christ does not help us we will not be able to lay hold on the victory that we desire.
