Why Couples Separate

Failure to obey God’s Word is one of the primary causes of many marriages ending in divorce. God’s Word should never be disregarded. It makes the family unhappy, devoid of love, and at peace. But how can a couple obey God’s Word if they don’t know what it says? Many marriages fail due to ignorance and lack of understanding. It is difficult for a husband and wife who do not make a commitment to base their union on God’s commandments to avoid divorcing at the first sign of resentment.

“So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh”.

(Ephesians 5: 28-31)

God commanded the man to leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife that two of them become one. If husbands would obey this simple piece of instruction in the scripture, and then love their wives as their own bodies, no man would ever imagine separating from his wife. The Scripture held that it is not possible for any man to hate his flesh. No matter how bad your eyes, nose or any part of your body looked, you still cared for them.

However, we know that evil forces induce men to hate their wives and even attack them. This is absolutely wrong and unlawful. The big challenge is, what do we do? Do we keep quiet and let these evil forces continue to rule our lives? Do we keep silent so that sin would abound much more? No, we cannot keep quiet. You have to resist evil spirits behind hatred. It is such a beautiful thing to love your wife or husband.

To leave parents and cleave to each other demands determination to resist any power that attempts to separate you from your partner.

But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. For this cause, shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; and they twain shall be one flesh: so then, they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined, let not man put asunder

(Mark 10:6-9).

“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh”

(Genesis 2:24).

Repeatedly, the old and New Testaments held that husbands and wives should stay together for a lifetime. Anything or person that opposes this verdict not only opposes the institution of marriage but God also. Use all spiritual weapons available to you to resist the urge and scourge of separation because it is the wish of your enemy. Therefore, understand the spiritual implication of leaving parents in order to cleave to each other. Then, do not give the devil a place.

“Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin”

(James 4:17).

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world”

(1 Peter 5:7-9).

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”

(James 4:7).

Devil does not seek for a place in our homes only but in our personal lives also. Therefore, you cannot afford to give devil an inch in your life. He can be very destructive.

A wife that refuses to submit to her husband’s authority gives the devil a place in her family. By the time the devil takes that place, he knows how to cause separation in the shortest period. God expects the love, tenderness and gentleness of wives to their husbands to be perfect.

A good wife submits to her husband as unto the Lord and does not think that she is doing her husband any favor. Anytime she disagrees with her husband, she does so with mildness and gentleness until her husband considers her opinion. A good wife states her reasons humbly, and then prayerfully commits every other thing to God. After doing this, she does not fight. Instead, she endeavors to make everyone at home happy.

“She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.  She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates”

(Proverbs 31:20-31).

Any woman who submits is not a slave. Instead, it serves as evidence of your devotion to Christ and His teachings. An illiterate man who beats his wife is fighting his own body. Equally illiterate and attacking her own mind is a wife who won’t submit to her husband. The Spirit of God would reside in our homes if the husband and wife obey these scriptural commands as instructed, and the world would experience peace.
