“For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, Saying, this man began to build, and was not able to finish.

New Year Resolutions and its Uncertainties

A lot of people have made lots of verbal and nonverbal promises before, during and after  New year celebrations, but truth be told; not up to seventy percent of promises made and even decisions made in tears were fulfilled. There are lots of uncertainties that come with the euphoria of the New Year celebration which can lead one into making some New Year resolutions without a solid foundation backing its fulfillment.

Your physical, emotional, temperament, social, spiritual maturity or immaturity will determine your success or failure this year. You need to develop a mature life of discipline, temperance, self-denial and unselfishness. You need to practice a life of maturity and industry through an intimate union with Christ and purity of life. To prepare adequately and receive the best that God has for you this year, you must examine your life, strengthen your past, correct your immediate wrong ways of life and take solid decision to live right, obey God’s word and remain with Christ at all cost.

“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”

(2 Corinthians 13:5)

You are no longer getting young. You need to sit down and ask yourself some questions. Every year, you end up spending all your earnings to start a new year with hardship, poverty, debt and regrets. How long will you continue life like this? The end of every year to many is a time of false life and pretense. They keep on and, on every year, engaging in unprofitable commercial activities and bazaars. They celebrate the birthday of a Person they have no personal encounter with. They eat and drink in sin without Christ whom they claim to celebrate. To many, Christmas is a time for dazzling display of wealth. Before, during and after Christmas, many people have died but you are alive. A lot of accidents, problems, sicknesses, and mysterious happenings have taken place and you are alive. Isn’t that enough reason to be grateful to God? You have to think deep and decide for Christ now. And thinking or deciding for Christ obviously is also thinking for yourself too because we are meant to be ambassadors of Christ here on earth.

“Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.”

(2 Corinthians 5:20)

We ought to live lives that display the nature of the very personality we claim to celebrate and this incorporates putting Him at the forefront of our resolutions each year, with this; there would not be reasons for uncertainties or failed resolutions.
