The Scriptures establish God’s love for widows and orphans. He did so because God cares for their safety and provision. That is why widows and orphans should have no reason to suffer in silence or lack for anything.
“Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child”
Exodus 22:22
A wise person does not afflict widows and their families. During harvests, God commanded farmers also to remember widows and orphans and bless them. Business people and civil servants should also remember to bless widows and orphans. It is a good thing to do so. Those who obey God’s word concerning widows and orphans will not be without God’s assistance when they are in need.
The reason why some businesses succeed and others fail is because of the way widows and orphans are treated in their midst. When you maltreat widows and the fatherless, you will not prosper, and your own children stand the risk of becoming fatherless.

Withholding blessings from widows and orphans is a very big mistake. You cannot allow the expectations of widows and orphans to fail. One of the reasons for violent and untimely deaths and the multiplication of widows and orphans in the cities today is the maltreatment of widows and their children.
If you sit on the right of a dead friend’s child, you will die soon, and your own children will suffer the same fate you inflicted on other children. If you refuse to execute judgment or distribute your brother’s will equally because you want to profit from it, it will soon be your turn. Likewise, if you kill your brother to befriend or marry his wife, you will soon die, and your children will become fatherless. You are digging your own grave by rejoicing over the death of a brother. It is an evil investment for your whole family if you maltreat widows or orphans.
“Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow”
Psalms 109:9

“Learn to do well; seek judgment relieves the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. 23Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts, and followed after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them”
Isaiah 1:17, 23
A wise person stands for God and widows to execute right judgment, stands by the truth, and defends widows and their children. While others may be oppressing widows, do not join them. Do not also take bribes from widows and orphans. To oppress widows and orphans is unwise, and to do them wrong, use violence, or shed their blood is like touching the apple of God’s eye. You may succeed in oppressing widows for a while, but your judgment will surely come in a more destructive way.
Therefore, you must be very careful when dealing with widows or orphans. It pains God to see widows maltreated. The children of people who oppress widows and their children will be delivered to famine. Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for devouring widows’ houses and yet assumed that their long prayers would save them. If you oppress widows and orphans, repent now or your punishment will come swiftly.
“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation”
Matthew 23:14
