The Power and Importance of Prayer in Christian Life

The Nature and Delight of Prayer

Prayer is a cry or supplication to God. It can be defined as the expression of the burden of the heart and soul’s desire to God. It is the act of communicating with God; an instinct that must have utterance.

“And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god.”

(Isaiah 44:17).

Prayer is a great delight. It is pouring out the heart, and seeking the face of the Lord. There are many kinds of prayers. A prayer of intercession is praying for others; to stand in the gap between God and man.

“First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;”

(Romans 1:8, 9).

Intercession and Warfare Prayer

Believers are called to intercede for one another; to the church and the nations, not to criticize, divide fellowship, find fault, destroy, or oppose one another. We are called to talk to God about every problem.

Prayer can put on the garment of war against the enemies in the battlefield, which is what the scriptures describe as warfare prayer.

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).

It is an appeal from the child to the Father against an enemy, problems or ill-treatment. It is dragging the devil to divine court, seeking to reverse demonic judgment, evil actions and seeking to terminate and to reversed his evil deeds in our lives. Jesus the chief judge in the supreme court of heaven will reverse the case, bring the power behind our problems, suffering and hardships to condemnation and set us free. He leaves the court and at that point the devil, powers behind our problems may still be contending, resisting the final judgment but the law enforcement agents from heaven will drag him out of our lives, take him to prison to serve his prison terms. In between that time of his resistance and our total freedom, we need to have faith in Christ’s judgment and confess our freedom. No matter the time of his resistance, the pains we go through, for a second, one month or years it takes, our duty is to take our stand and believe the judgment of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

(1 Peter 2:24)

Expressions and Power of Prayer

Prayer is bowing the knee and falling on your face at the feet of God (Numbers 16:22, 45). Prayer can find its expression in weeping, agonizing, standing and spreading out the hands, and groaning before God to plead our case.

Likewise, the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God

(Romans 8:26-27).

At other times, it finds expression in looking up to God, bowing the head, sitting, or lying, expressing ourselves to God, asking for his intervention

(2 Samuel 12:16-20).

Prayer can be done everywhere, anytime to the Father through Jesus Christ. Believers are to pray with their whole hearts, with the spirit of forgiveness, in faith and in righteousness.

“The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.”

(Psalms 145:18).

It is one of God’s phone numbers with an opportunity to call God daily in the morning, twice in a day, at night, etc.

(Psalms 143:8, 88:1, Luke 6:12).

“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;”

(1 Timothy 2:1).

This phone number is very vital because a great struggle lies before every Christian, and it is only God who can see us through in this wicked world we live in. The world is a battleground, and our Christian life is likened to wrestling and warfare. Prayer is a great weapon to cripple the enemy in times of problems. In the past, all that dialled this great phone number to communicate with God in prayer were victorious. One of the greatest contributions you can make for mankind is the prayer of intercession. No one seems to do much of it. The tragedy of our generation is that there is no intercessor. Believers devour one another, backbite and gossip instead of interceding. Jesus interceded for the church; He never gossiped. Samuel interceded for Israel, and Abraham interceded for Sodom and Gomorrah. True believers are commanded to pray for all men. Prayer is an effective weapon to expel demons, speak things into existence and set the captives free. Through prayers of faith and decrees, you can speak things into existence. You can also expel demons and nothing can be impossible with you. Am going to copy from my book 21/40 nights of decrees on a title called ”UNDERSTANDING THE MEANING OF DECREES” and ”PRAYERS OF DECREES AGAINST EVIL FOUNDATION”.
